From smiley faces in the sky to a tornado-like waterspout over the sea, there have been plenty of strange sights above the Bristol area this year.
We’ve seen a convoy of 60 Space X satellites and weird blue lights that turned out to be trains – but we’ve also had a string of bizarre sightings that witnesses believe to be extraterrestrial.
Bristol Live has rounded up all of the UFO (unidentified flying object) sightings in and around Bristol that we are aware of since October 2019, which have either been reported directly to us, logged on dedicated UFO ’tracker’ websites or posted about on social media.
There have been 11 separate accounts in total, with locations including Kingswood, Bedminster, St George and Lawrence Weston all experiencing spooky goings-on.

One vivid account was posted on the UFO Stalker website on August 29, by a dog walker who was walking in Lavers Close in Kingswood at about 8.30pm.

It read: “I first noticed two large circular objects close together between 30-50 miles away. These were [North West] from my position.
“At first they were casting a beam downwards and I initially mistook this for two police helicopters with search lights on.
“The two lights became more distinct and the ’beam’ disappeared until the main lights divided and went up and then down very very quickly.
“They then rose up again as if following each other before starting to do circles in opposite directions, so that they were meeting (almost crashing | thought) in the middle before repeating this at least four more times.
“They then appeared to chase each other up, down and around each other until disappearing into thick cloud.
“My experience has left me shaken and I am now in no doubt that there are others in this universe!”
Other accounts speak of a saucer-like object hovering over the Bristol Channel, and a “pulsating” black trail moving upwards in the sky.
Last November the Weird Bristol history account tweeted: “Over the past few years it’s been alleged that #Bristol has become a hub for UFO sightings.
“One explanation offered by ufologists is that alien visitors are using the 1970 built Purdown BT Telecommunications Tower as a refuelling point on their intergalactic adventures.”
There is fierce debate about the existence of extraterrestrial life, with many people dismissing the possibility but others dedicating their lives to finding proof that aliens are out there.
