This puppy from Sonora, Mexico went through a challenge when he was less than a year old. A group of unscrupulous people attached fireworks to its snout and set it on fire, a most heinous and regrettable act.
Fortunately, the dog they called Braveheart was able to survive and was rescued by a group of people who did everything to help it recover. Tracy Lystra, 44, is the director of The Saving Huey Foundation in California, when she heard about it, she couldn’t ignore it.
Not knowing what to do about the severe damage the creature suffered, the woman ultimately decided to take care of the puppy herself and pay for its rehabilitation.
Braveheart was moved to California and lives in Sanctuary, since his accident he has had 4 surgeries to try to rebuild his jaw.
«They contacted me from Mexico to help Braveheart, they sent me photos of him and my first instinct was that he had to be put down. He had never worked with the veterinarians there and he didn’t know how they would help him, but a friend told me about Dr. Briseño,” Tracy said.
The recovery of this little boy has not been easy, because Corazón Valiente (according to the Spanish translation) suffered very severe damage but with the help of professionals and the love he has received, he has managed to get ahead.
After a few months of treatment in Mexico, the little boy was able to travel to California and since the beginning of this year he has lived in a Sanctuary.
“He stayed in Mexico for two more months until he was well enough to travel by bus for 11 hours, and now he has been with us for a few months. A few days into being with us we removed the tube from her nose and that seemed to ease her pain,” Tracy said.
The woman confesses that this little friend is quite a fighter, because despite all the bad things he has experienced, he does not stop smiling and being a rather playful puppy.
“Braveheart is a wonderful boy who loves people and other animals, he still gets too excited when he sees others but he is learning not to jump so much. He would lie to you if I told you that I don’t stay up at night thinking about what he would do to people who do this. I do everything I can but sometimes my emotions get the better of me,” the woman confessed.
In truth, like Tracy, we cannot explain why someone would decide to do so much damage to a defenseless creature. These people are not forgiven by God and we only ask that justice can be done to them. Meanwhile, we are touched and happy to hear that generous people are taking care of Braveheart. Now this kid just wants to be loved and accepted by everyone.
